Landmark Photographer Fritz Henle's Work Exhibited at Austing-Bergstrom International Airport

Image of art on display.AUSTIN, TEXAS – The avant-garde and pioneering photographic creations of twentieth century photographer Fritz Henle (1909-1998) are on display at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport. A dramatic color sunset photo from the U.S. Virgin Islands, a black & white image of Europe before World War II and familiar pictures out of famous U.S. magazines are a few examples of the pieces on display. The exhibit titled, In Search of Beauty, coincides with the centennial celebration of Henle’s birth and is a partnership with the photographic collection and archives department of the Harry Ransom Center at the University of Texas at Austin. The airport exhibit provides an overview of Henle’s diverse bibliography of photographic works as well as samples of his photography. Throughout the concourse large posters using enlargements of his photography can be seen adjacent to the display showcases. They provide a powerful testimony to the mastery of this photographer.

Among the items on display is a vintage Rolifelex camera used by Henle during his early career. This antique device required the photographer to look down upon the camera while trying to frame and focus an image presented backwards to the photographer’s eye. Henle’s ability to capture hundreds of day and night images with ease and clarity places him as a leading photographer of the twentieth century. Many of Henle’s books on display reveal not only his vast portfolio of images but also his techniques and lessons learned from his decades of experimentation and work.

In Search of Beauty is on display through April 07, 2009 in the pylon showcases located on the concourse between Gates 7-12 and in the area of the airport past security checkpoints accessible to ticketed passengers only, currently an audience of over 24,000 passengers a day.
