The City of
Austin offers connectivity to its wireless
mesh network for general public internet use.
In March 2006, the City in partnership with the World Congress on Information Technology and Cisco Systems launched this project to provide high-speed, outdoor Internet wireless access to limited areas in downtown, East Austin and Zilker Park. The wireless mesh provides a wireless testing environment to improve areas of education, economic development, City services and outdoor access to the Internet.
