MISSION
The mission of the City of Austin's Neighborhood Housing and Community Development (NHCD) is to provide housing, community development, and small business development services to benefit eligible residents so they can have access to livable neighborhoods and increase their opportunities for self-sufficiency.
PROGRAMS AND SERVICES
To accomplish this mission, NHCD directly administers a variety of programs to serve the community's housing, community development, and economic development needs and provides grant funding to various agencies and non-profit organizations.

Community Land Trusts: A Neighborhood Educational Forum
Learn about community land trusts and how they can be
used to preserve affordable housing in Austin. Forum will include information on inheritance and estate concerns and will be held at Rosewood-Zaragosa Neighborhood Center from 6:30—8:00pm. Flyers can be viewed in English and Spanish.

Invitation for Bid
Austin Housing Finance Corporation (AHFC) is seeking contractors in response to the Home Rehabilitation Loan Program. This proposal is for contractors, homebuilders or developers that are qualified and have a minimum of five year’s experience in Residential Rehabilitation, Community Development and/or Housing Development. The construction projects will consist of rehabilitation of four (4) existing houses. Contractors must bid on each house, with all four houses being awarded on the basis of the lowest bid submitted by responsible, responsive bidders. Bid packets can be picked up at the Street-Jones Building, 1000 East 11th Street, Suite 200, Austin, Texas, 78702, beginning at 12:00 pm (NOON) Monday, JUNE 15, 2009. A non-refundable deposit of $50.00 is required for each Bid Package. Checks must be made out to “Austin Housing Finance Corporation (AHFC)”.
A MANDATORY PRE-BID WALK-THRU WILL BE HELD ON THURSDAY, JUNE 25, 2009 AT 9:00 A.M., BEGINNING AT 6108 Palm Circle 78741; proceeding to 1412 Luna Street 78721; proceeding to 9511 Oriole Dr 78753; and completing at 12328 Yarmont Way 78753. Draft Fiscal Year 2009-10 ACTION PLAN
The City of Austin Neighborhood Housing and Community Development Office announces the 30-day public comment period and public hearings to receive citizen comments on the draft fiscal years 2009-14 Consolidated Plan and the draft fiscal year 2009-10 Action Plan. Beginning June 12 through July 13, 2009, the draft plans will be available at various neighborhood centers and libraries for review. You may view the notice here for details regarding the draft comment period, including a list of locations of the Draft Plans.

Feb. 24, 2009
NHCD staff presented Neighborhood Stabilization Program (NSP) information to the Community Development Commission (CDC) at a special called meeting on Feb. 24, 2009. NHCD will apply for NSP funds through a process developed by the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs. View information on NSP presented to the CDC.

FY 2009-14 Consolidated Plan
Thank you for participating in the City of Austin’s FY 2009-14 Consolidated Plan public process. The Consolidated Plan will be used as a blueprint for identifying community priorities for funding to address priority housing, community development, economic development, and public service needs. The City will release a draft FY 2009-14 Consolidated Plan, as well as a draft FY 2009-10 Action Plan in June 2009. The draft will have a 30-day comment period, with 2 additional public hearings, in front of Austin City Council and the Community Development Commission. Affordable Housing Preservation Study
Neighborhood Housing and Community Development Department releases the Preserving Affordable Housing In Austin: A Platform for Action study. The study is an in-depth assessment by the Neighborhood Housing and Community Development Department (NHCD) of housing affordability in Austin, national trends and best practices. The report includes recommendations as a platform for addressing the challenges in today's housing market and focuses on how to retain affordable housing in our community.
