Land Use/Parcel GIS Inventory
The Planning and Development Review Department (PDRD), with assistance from the Watershed Protection Department (WPD) creates land information data sets including land use parcel appraisal data. This information provides a snapshot of what the City looks like now, and more importantly what it might look like in the future. Specifically, this information is valuable is the comprehensive planning process to assist planners and the public in determining where new development and re-development can occur, or where services will be needed, for example. WPD uses the information in watershed and flood plain models, while other departments like Fire and the Water Utility use the information in their long range planning.
Land Use GIS layers exist for years 1990, 1995, 2000 and 2003, 2006 and 2008. Each layer is a historical record of how land was being used at the time - typically October of each year. At present, the inventories are not updated as changes occur due to limited resources and coordination issues within the City and TCAD. The good news is accuracy and aerial coverage have increased throughout the years due to improvements in technology and methods.
