SMBR selects 'Contractor of the Year'

The City of Austin's Small and Minority Business Resources Department has honored Harutunian Engineering, Inc. as its 2009-2010 "Contractor of the Year."

The award was presented during the Fourth Annual Contractors' Appreciation event Oct. 20 at City Hall.

"We're very pleased to select Harutunian Engineering, Incorporated as our 'Contractor of the Year,'" said SMBR Acting Director, Veronica Briseño Lara. "Harutunian has been very successful in securing water-related contracts within the City as both a prime and a subcontractor."

SMBR also selected four other companies as "Small Businesses of the Year" based on their collaborative work with everyone involved in the contracts and their ability to remain compliant with the Minority-Owned and Women-Owned Business Enterprise Procurement Program Rules. These firms include ASD Consultants Inc., Benitez Construction Inc., Frank Lam & Associates Inc. and Roadway Specialties Inc..

Small businesses that exceed the Small Business Administration's size standards limits or dollar amounts in gross receipts become SMBR Graduates. This year CivilTech Engineering Inc.and Greenscape Pump Service Inc. were honored as "Graduates of the Year."

SMBR assists small minority-owned and women-owned businesses as they pursue contracting opportunities with the City of Austin; encourages MBE/WBEs to participate in City contracts; and oversees the City's MBE/WBE and DBE contracting goals in the areas of construction, professional services, commodities and non-professional services.
