Traffic Reductions at Riverside Drive at South First Street

For immediate release
June 02, 2011

Riverside Drive just west of South First Street will undergo reduced lanes of traffic for approximately 90 days, beginning on the evening of Sunday, June 5, for work related to the Downtown Wastewater Tunnel. Reductions will be around the clock until project completion and will include the reduction of east bound traffic to one lane and west bound to two lanes from the Riverside Drive traffic circle to the intersection of South First Street. Construction is projected to be complete approximately September 2, weather permitting. The Downtown Wastewater Tunnel is being built to provide sanitary sewer service for downtown development. Current wastewater lines are at capacity and need updating to accommodate future business and residential development.

Special arrangements have been made for traffic control for upcoming Long Center events. Motorists should expect delays beginning Monday, June 6 through September 2. The City urges motorists to utilize Barton Springs Road or Cesar Chavez as alternative routes during the construction, and to drive carefully and courteously while the work takes place.
