National Night Out 2010

On Tuesday October 5, 2010 neighborhoods throughout Austin are invited to join with thousands of communities nationwide for the 27th Annual National Night Out.

'National Night Out' is designed to:

1. Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness.
2. Generate support and participation in crime efforts.
3. Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police community relations.
4. Send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

On October 5, 2010, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., residents in neighborhoods throughout Austin and across the nation are asked to turn on their porch lights, lock their doors and spend the evening outside with their neighbors, police officers, firefighters and EMS paramedics. Events such as cookouts, block parties and neighborhood walks will all occur simultaneously throughout the city and nationwide.

This evening is a great opportunity for citizens and law enforcement to partner up against crime. We are encouraging everyone to come meet your neighbors and commit to help law enforcement reduce crime in your community. It is time to show the criminal element that we as a society are not going to just sit back and let crime occur in our neighborhoods. APD will make every effort to have a 1st responder stop by each party that is registered by the deadline date of September 10, 2010.

Please be aware that unforeseen circumstances may limit the number of 1st responders available to attend even those parties who register early.

JOIN NATIONAL NIGHT OUT 2010

1. Get all of your neighbors to turn on their porch lights.
2. Organize a block party or some type of neighborhood event.
3. Fill out and return the 2010 National Night Out Application (descargar aplicación en español) as soon as possible and mail it to the address below. You may also fax your application to (512) 974-6222.
   (You will need the Adobe Acrobat Reader to view or download the application. You may download the Reader for free.)

After completing the application, return it to:

Everyone who completes an application will be notified via mail or e-mail before the event where to come by and pick up a National Night Out bag. The bags will contain crime prevention information, posters, party invitations and items for use at your party.
