Effective immediately the obstacle course has been removed from the testing requirements and the following requirements have been added:

1)Vertical Jump--13.5" over height of applicant reach.

2)300 Meter Dash--in minimum of 74 seconds.

The Austin Police Department is now accepting applications for an anticipated Fall 2011 cadet class. This will be a great opportunity for military personnel exiting the military in mid 2011 or college students graduating in Spring 2011.

Testing dates for this class will start in January 2010 and will continue as needed in 2010. When submitting a completed application package you must be prepared to sign up for one of the posted testing dates. If you cannot attend the posted testing dates, do not turn in an application.

MILITARY PERSONNEL: If you are eligible you will receive a monthly GI Bill stipend of up to $1400 for the first 11 to 12 months plus receive 21 college credits from Austin Community College upon completion of the police academy.

If you are interested in applying for the Fall 2011 cadet class for the Austin Police Department please go to the "Application" link of the recruiting menu and complete the interest card. You will also be allowed to print a Background History Statement application and Instruction booklet.
