Neighborhood Connectivity Division - Bicycle
The City of Austin designs its next Bicycle MapBike Map Progress The next version of Austin's bike map is under way! Along with it, a 5-county regional bike map will also be created. The Bicycle Program thanks everyone who chimed in on the preliminary survey, helping us to set priorities for the content and layout of the map. Update: We've closed the road ratings survey for the local map. Thanks for all of the detailed and thoughtful feedback. It will make the next map that much more useful!
If you have some experience riding the greater Capital Area Region, please take a moment to do the same exercise for the regional road ratings:
If you have any questions concerning the maps or surveys, please send them to Pete Dahlberg. Watch for the new map to be released Fall 2010.
Give 3 Feet CampaignIn October 2009, the Austin City Council passed what’s known as the "3-foot safe passing law." This law protects vulnerable road users – such as pedestrians and cyclists – by setting a "safe passing distance" of 3-feet for cars and small trucks, or 6 feet for heavy duty trucks and commercial vehicles. The Public Works Department is working with Austin Police to make sure the law is enforced. Check out our Resources tab to view the Vulnerable User law, as well as other local bicycle laws.
