The American Recovery and Reinvestment ActThe American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) was signed into law on Feb. 17, 2009, by President Barack Obama. It is intended to jumpstart the economy as the nation tries to recover from a global economic downturn. Money will flow from the Federal government to states, cities, non-profits and other agencies and organizations. Funding will come through many different processes and for a wide variety of goals and priorities. Because the effects of the downturn are being felt locally here in Austin, the City of Austin will be pursuing various funding opportunities that will be available to cities to assist our local economy. These include opportunities in areas ranging from transportation and other infrastructure to health care. The Federal government has stressed that transparency and public involvement are vital parts of the stimulus process, and the City of Austin will focus on these aspects as we pursue stimulus funding.
