Submitted: 08/02/2008 I did a comparison of water and sewage rates for most of the major cities in Texas and found that the maximum residential combined rate is almost 2x the state average. Austin comes in at a whopping $14.80/1000g for residential consumption over 15,000 gallons. The next city lower than Austin is Houston at $8.64 (15% above the avg).
I own a fairly large home a large lot and so my usage is usually above the 15,000 max. Can someone please explain why Austin water and sewage service is 2x the state average while no other city comes even close to 2x?
Thank you,

Submitted: 08/14/2008 Separating the billing of water from wastewater encourages conservation at no cost. Currently in order to qualify for the Industrial rate of sewer use, we must utilize more water than we actually need. If the two billing rates were separate we would utilize our other sources of water and increase our reuse of water and lower our demand on the city supply. |

Submitted: 08/19/2008 Why does Austin charge so much for water usage over 15,000 gallons? This is over 165% of any other cities like Cedar Park, Dallas, Round Rock, San Antonio etc. |

Submitted: 08/19/2008 Does the average 11,900 gallons per household you quote include the hundreds of thousands of apartments in austin that don't have lawns to water? Also, is it really fair to penalize residents for using in excess of 15,000 gallons without taking into account the size of house, size of lawn, and whether they have a swimming pool? The excess rate should take into account these factors before almost doubling the water rate fees. This policy seems to discriminate against people in larger homes and/or properties. |

Submitted: 08/26/2008 o you know how they determine what rate to use to discourage water usage over 15,000 gallons? The rate Austin chose is almost 2x any other city in Texas. Is there any upcoming meetings to discuss this rate? I just move from Round Rock and my water bill was about $60. Using the equivalent amt of water in Austin costs about $200.
